Hertzogville - A former detective sergeant and an accomplice, who tried to break into the SAPS detective branch in Hertzogville on Friday, were both found guilty of trespassing and malicious damage to property in the local Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The former officer, Moses Monyane (40), and Johannes Mhlotshana (34) were each fined R1 500 or three months'
imprisonment for trespassing, as well as a R300 fine or 20 days' imprisonment for malicious damage to property.

The pair were found inside the offices of the detective branch in Hertzogville on Friday after the police were informed by a passerby that there were people inside the building. Monyane and Mhlotshana could not explain their reasons for being inside the building and were arrested.

Monyane has a pending case of fraud against him. Free State police spokesperson, Thabo Litabe told OFM News on Sunday that it is believed that Monyane was searching for his corruption case docket.
