Durban - Hundreds of eager Central South African horse racing enthusiasts are streaming to their nearest betting centres ahead of today’s 119th edition of the Durban July.
Africa's biggest racing event is held annually at the Greyville Racecourse.
The manager of Sports Bet in Bloemfontein, Evelyn Jantjie, told OFM News many new faces have entered their doors since yesterday morning.
It is expected that over R100 million will be paid out in winning bets, and the spend on betting on-course and off-course will top R220 million.
It will also be an opportunity for the thousands of race-goers to impress with their attire. The fashion programme runs parallel to the Durban July and has produced breathtaking spectacles in the past.
The main event starts at 16:30 local time.
