According to new demarcation borders the Free State will lose one of its municipalities, with the amalgamation of the Mangaung Metro and Naledi local municipality.
MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Olly Mlamleli says she informed Naledi Municipality residents on Sunday in Wepener that Naledi would be relocated.
The municipal demarcation board announced this on Friday.
According to Mlamleli the amalgamation will increase Mangaung’s equitable share.
Naledi Municipality used to be part of the Motheo District before it was dismantled after the previous local government elections and it was made part of the Xhariep District Municipality, when Mangaung became a Metro.
She says Naledi residents requested the demarcation board to be integrated with the Mangaung Metro.
