Kumba retrenching more than 1 000 miners─── 16:20 Fri, 17 Jul 2015
Bloemfontein - The number of Kumba Iron Ore mineworkers facing retrenchment has risen to over one thousand.
This comes after the mine served the NUM with a section 189 yesterday, to shut down operations at Thabazimbi, in Limpopo. More than 870 miners stand to be affected.
Last week the mine hit the union with the same section, to retrench over 170 miners at two of their operations in the Northern Cape.
NUM’s Lucas Phiri says they have called for an urgent intervention from the mineral resources minister.
