Lianné Greyling 'can be rehabilitated outside prison' | News Article

Bloemfontein - Prosecutor Vic de Bruyn has urged the Bloemfontein Regional Court to send convicted thief and fraudster Lianné Greyling to prison for aggravation of sentence.

He asked for 10 to 12 years. He said he had a much longer term in mind, but you don’t only have to think about her, but you also have to think about her children.
Greyling committed fraud and stole close to R6m in transactions related to luxury motor vehicles and spares which she imported. She was convicted of 12 charges of fraud and 12 of theft in April this year after pleading guilty.

OFM News' Mark Steenbok reports that her defence team want her to be placed under correctional supervision.

Her lawyer, Eugene Lubbe, told the court that Greyling is the primary caregiver for her three children and should thus be placed under supervision or even given a suspended sentence.

He further noted that Greyling has shown remorse for her actions and has not transgressed since June 2014.

He mentioned she can be successfully rehabilitated through supervision and motivation.

The trial continues on August 3.
