Speaker's alleged murderer to undergo psychiatric evaluation─── DANE BEISHEIM 15:36 Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Kathu - The case against the husband of a Northern Cape municipality speaker has been postponed to September 3 in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court.
This was in order for Thamsanqua Mjila to undergo psychiatric evaluation. He will be remanded in the Kuruman Correctional Facility until his next court appearance.
According to police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu he was charged with four counts of murder – including that of his wife – assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm as well as arson.
This follows an incident on May 30, when he reportedly set Nokhaya alight while she was recuperating at relatives in Olifantshoek after being hospitalised for an undisclosed reason.
She died on June 12 from injuries sustained during the fire.
Three of her relatives, including her nine-month-old granddaughter, also succumbed to burn wounds.
