FS schools to get subsidies next month─── CATHY DLODLO 07:45 Fri, 31 Jul 2015
Bloemfontein - Schools in the Free State are only expected to receive their government subsidies in mid-August.
Provincial Education MEC Tate Makgoe admitted during an answer-and-question session in the Free State legislature on Thursday that schools in the province have not yet received subsidies. This is despite his department's previous denial about the outstanding payments to schools.
Makgoe said his department's finances are still being managed by provincial treasury, which took a decision to hold off on the payment because of serious cash flow problems. Makgoe said the schools' subsidies - which cost the department approximately R169 million per term will be paid between the 15th and 19th of August.
DA MPL David van Vuuren said the fact that Makgoe acknowledged the financial constraints his department is facing is a step in the right direction.
