Bloemfontein - Provincial government departments could soon find themselves in the same boat as municipalities and have their equitable share withheld by national treasury.
This is according to acting CEO of the Financial and Fiscal Commission, Bongani Khumalo. According to national treasury municipalities owed Eskom R9.49b and R3.6b to Water Boards at the end of November last year.
Khumalo said this process can soon be repeated with provincial government departments if they are not paying service providers and municipalities for services rendered within the prescribed 30 days.
National treasury already sent warning letters to the heads of government departments and their chief financial officers.
