School for the deaf pays tribute to three after fatal accident | News Article

Wolmaransstad - A memorial service for an assistant teacher and two learners from the North West School for the Deaf outside Wolmaransstad in North West will be held at the school tomorrow.

This comes after 31-year-old Thabo Batshe and two learners Neo Lekalakala and Kamogelo Mokowe died in an accident on Sunday when the driver of the minibus they were travelling in allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Spokesperson of the North West Education and Sport Development, Elias Malindi, says the minibus overturned several times on the road between Orkney and Leeudoringstad.

He says seven learners and two teachers from the school were travelling back from Durban after attending a two day hospitality course arranged by a deaf friendly organization.

MEC Maphefo Matsemela visited three of the injured learners involved in the accident who are being treated at the Klerksdorp Hospital and Tshepong Hospital in Jouberton on Monday.

She also went to convey condolences to Batshe’s family in Mafikeng.
