Brits - A 43-year-old man and his 38-year-old girlfriend were arrested on Monday for cultivating dagga in Brits, North West, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation said.

Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the Hawks received information about the couple and obtained a search warrant to search the house in Tambotie Street and found the couple in their highly secured house.

“Seventy one plants were found in the house, while 13 bottles containing dried dagga were found inside a small house which was fully equipped with dagga-cultivating equipment,” he said.

“Upon searching the house, the Hawks found one hunting rifle, one handgun, 310 hunting bullets, 121 R1 bullets, 41 rounds for a shotgun, one .303 round, 13 .22 special rifle bullet as well as one .50 Browning ammunition.”

Mulaudzi said the couple had planted dagga inside their house and on a mountain near their house which was securely protected with nine booby-traps.

They were expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court soon.
