Potchefstroom - Claims that black staff of the North West University were prevented from using an elevator in the Over-de-Voor men’s residence on the Potchefstroom Campus, are false.
Campus spokesperson, Johan van Zyl says the residence does not even have an elevator. Van Zyl was responding to claims made by supporters of third year student Lerato Phoofolo, a resident of Over-de-Voor, who is in custody after allegedly stabbing fellow student Hendri van Dyk with a pair of scissors. Phoofolo claims to have seen many racist acts at the university.
Van Zyl says anyone with knowledge of racism should report it.
Meanwhile Phoofolo, who was supposed to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court today, will now only appear on Monday. An administrative error resulted in him not being transported to court this morning.
