Alleged Hoopstad teacher killers remain behind bars | News Article

Hoopstad - Four suspects, Joel Montewa, his son Pheello, Thembinkosi Nomana and Matshediso Motingoe, who appeared in the Hoopstad Magistrate's Court today in connection with the murder of a teacher from the Tikwane Secondary School, are still behind bars.

They will apply for bail next Thursday.

Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says 26-year-old James Sekhonyane was reported missing on Sunday and his vehicle was found abandoned and burnt out in  Viljoenskroon that same day. Thakeng says his body was found on Monday under a bridge between Hoopstad and Bothaville. He had two gunshot wounds to the head.

Thakeng says the arrests were made on Tuesday and yesterday.

Thakeng told OFM News earlier, 19-year-old Pheello Montewa’s unlicensed firearm was allegedly used to commit the crime. A revolver with 21 rounds and a safe were seized where the firearm was found.

Thakeng says three of the suspects are allegedly former students of Sekhonyane.

The motive for the murder is unknown.
