Klerksdorp cop arrested for selling state laptop | News Article

Klerksdorp - A police lieutenant has been arrested after allegedly selling her official police laptop to a financial lender in Klerksdorp, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said on Friday.

Hawks spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said: “It is alleged that the 40-year-old officer, stationed at Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit went to a cash loan business and used her state-issued laptop as security to get R1,100.”

Netshiunda said with the officer failing to pay back the total amount of R1,900, the cash loan business then sold the laptop to an unknown person to recover their money as per their agreement with the police officer.

The officer has been charged with theft and will appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
