Cuban engineers 'not getting lodging from department'─── CATHY DLODLO 15:40 Fri, 28 Aug 2015
Bloemfontein - The Free State department of public works is not providing state housing to the Cuban engineers who arrived in the province in May this year.
This is according to MEC Dorah Coetzee during her first oral question-and-answers session in the legislature earlier this week. Coetzee was responding to a question from the DA. She said her department is not providing state housing to any of the 40 engineers.
The department of cooperative governance and traditional affairs indicated earlier that it is going to fork out some R90 million to pay their salaries, accommodation and return flights to Cuba once a year. It said although some of the engineers will work at rural municipalities, the department will carry all the costs.
