NW woman sustains burn wounds, FS man dies in separate fires─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 11:46 Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Bloemfontein - A woman believed to be 50 years old sustained severe burn wounds following a shack fire in Ikageng at Potchefstroom, earlier today.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the woman lying outside the shack. Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the fire. Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she was in a critical condition. She was treated and transported to hospital for further medical care. The exact cause of the fire is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
Meanwhile a 20-year-old man from Rietpoort at Smithfield in the Free State succumbed to burn wounds early yesterday morning when a fire broke out in his shack at the back of a house.
Police spokesperson, Yanda Ngcukana, says the fire allegedly broke out after the deceased returned home at around 03:00. According to him flames did not spread to the house adjacent to the shack. Ngcukana says the cause of the fire is being investigated but authorities believe a burning candle could have caused the fire.
