Potch boys' hostel burns down─── DANE BEISHEIM 06:13 Tue, 01 Sep 2015
Potchefstroom - Twenty-eight boys had to be accommodated elsewhere after the boys' hostel at Hoër Volkskool burned down last night.
Those whose parents reside outside Potchefstroom were housed at the local Elgro Hotel for the night. According to governing body chairman Kobus Fourie, no injuries were reported.
Fourie says the children were in the study hall last night when they heard a loud bang, presumably caused by a short circuit.
It is also thought to be the cause of the fire. The Jack Pauw boys' hostel quickly went up in flames, but the blaze was extinguished by 22:30 last night, leaving extensive damage to the C-block of the hostel.
Fourie had high praise for the speed at which emergency services responded to the fire.
