DA approaches Human Rights Commission over Maluti-a-Phofung | News Article

Harrismith - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State has requested the SA Human Rights Commission to subpoena the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality to explain its failure to comply with the commission’s remedial action regarding evictees of Bokamoso informal settlement in Qwaqwa.

DA provincial leader Patricia Kopane says the municipality, comprising of Qwaqwa and Harrismith, must account for violating residents' human rights. This after thousands of Bokamoso residents were illegally evicted in June last year.

Kopane says residents were left homeless with no alternative accommodation provided by the municipality.
