Human bones, skull found in Magalies mountains near Brits | News Article

Brits - A human skull and bones were discovered on the Magaliesberg mountain range in the Hartbeespoort Dam region, near Brits, North West police said on Monday.

“Next to the skull, there were small worn-out carrying bags with a cell phone and the car keys, and two metres away from the skull were pants with [a] wallet inside that contained an Australian driver’s licence,” said Brits police spokesperson, warrant officer Mpeile Talane.

He said one of the employees who works for a company situated near the mountain discovered the the skull on Saturday.

“The police attended the scene and took the skeleton for [a] post-mortem with an intent to establish the correct identity of the bones. However, there is a case of missing person that was lodged in 2012 at Hartbeespoort Dam Police Station which concerned Mr Johan C. Classen, aged 61, with citizenship for both Australia and South Africa, who was allegedly in South Africa visiting his brother, but he unfortunately went missing on January 15, 2012 and he was never found after a long search conducted by the police,” said Talane.

He said it was not confirmed that the skeleton found belonged to Classen, hence the police were busy with the investigation to detect the skeleton’s true identity.
