NC hospital not operational after fire | News Article

Barkly West - The Prof ZK Matthew hospital in Barkly West has been closed down after a 36-year-old man, who is allegedly mentally ill, set it alight this morning.

The building caught fire in the area where medical waste and rubbish are kept. Serious damage was caused.

Northern Cape Health spokesperson, Lebogang Majah, says the department has deployed some of their medical practitioners to local clinics in and around Barkly West, where patients will be assisted with the necessary medical care.

Majah says some of the other patients will receive medical attention in Kimberley during the weekend. It is expected that the hospital will be fully operational on Monday.
