Rustenburg - The Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government has conveyed its condolences to the family of late North West businessman, Wandile Bozwana, who was gunned down on the N1 between Johannesburg and Pretoria on Friday.

In a statement, spokesperson Brian Setswambung says the provincial government hopes the perpetrators are quickly brought to book. He also dismissed speculation that Bozwana's shooting death was linked to a court battle the businessman and North West government was embroiled in.

This after the DA's Chris Hattingh called for an in depth investigation into the murder that will also be extended to tender procedures in the province. According to Hattingh, Bozwana received in excess of R1 billion in contracts from the provincial and local government.

The South African National Civic Organisation(SANCO) also expressed shock at Bozwana's murder with provincial chairperson Paul Sebegoe appealing for calm and calling on communities to come forward with information that might assist police in their investigation.

Bozwana and a colleague, Mpho Baloyi, were travelling on the N1 north from Johannesburg at about 16:00 on Friday when both were shot after gunmen allegedly pulled up next to their car near the Garsfontein off-ramp and opened fire. Baloyi remains in critical condition in hospital.
