Bloemfontein - The ANC in the Free State wants the number of provinces reduced.
This is one of the resolutions the party took over the weekend at the Provincial General Council meeting in Welkom.
Provincial secretary, William Bulwane, says once the number of provinces is reduced, they will then aim for the abolition of all provincial borders. Bulwane says a research unit is currently examining the disadvantages and advantages of the resolution. He says the reduction of provinces will facilitate effective, sustainable and quality service delivery.
Their proposal will be discussed at the party's National Policy Conference in 2017.
The PGC, attended by 584 delegates, also want South Africa to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, the implementation of a media tribunal and the national division revenue formula to be reviewed.
They want it based on poverty levels and not on population.
