Chinese woman fined R1000 for possession of abalone | News Article

Bloemfontein - A 44-year-old Chinese woman who was arrested at her home in Pellissier, Bloemfontein, last week, after being found in possession of abalone, has been fined R1 000 after admitting guilt.

According to the Free State National Prosecuting Authority's Phaladi Shuping, the woman who owns a restaurant at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein admitted in court that she was in possession of abalone worth some R10 000.

She was arrested alongside a Chinese chef who works at the restaurant. The 48-year-old man was accused of being in the country illegally, however, after thorough investigation it was found he is in the country legally and charges against him were withdrawn.
