FS government officials don't want to fly economy | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Free State government are in talks with the auditor-general to have the flight tickets of government officials who form part of a provincial delegation on official trips abroad, upgraded.

The director-general in the province, Kopung Ralikontsane, was responding to questions about the cost containment measures during a sitting of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in the legislature.

Ralikontsane says according to these measures all officials below the rank of deputy director-general are required to fly economic class. He says with official delegations visiting several countries the past financial year, the office of the premier decided to request that the measures be relaxed to upgrade the tickets of these officials – who at times have to undertake 12 hour flights.

Ralikontsane says so far their request has not been granted and the office has asked for the matter to be reviewed.

The cost of official trips abroad by the Free State provincial government and the size of delegations were criticised by opposition parties.
