Agricultural markets to remain 'emotional' for at least the next month | News Article

Bloemfontein - The rain over the last few days has set-off major fluctuations in agricultural markets, with indications that the market will remain very “emotional” over the next month.

This was revealed during the quarterly agricultural market prospects workshop presented by Professor Johan Willemse at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein this morning.

Willemse cautioned producers not to panic and to make sure they look at the long-term picture:

Willemse is advising against hedging as this is too risky, saying people should rather look at open interest options with greater liquidity.

Commenting on the livestock industry, he has urged farmers to purchase their yellow maize now as prices are not likely to improve and drought damage could in fact see feed in short supply later in the year.
