Bloemfontein  -  A Bahraini youth opposition group has claimed responsibly for a blast in the Manama, in which a car was blown up just days before the Bahrain Grand Prix.

A group used gas cylinders to burn a car which cause the explosion. The racial movement claimed responsibility via their Twitter account, claiming their aim was to disrupt the controversial Grand Prix.

No casualties were reported.

Earlier reports suggested mainly Shiite groups Manama’s surrounding villages were demonstrating against the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The blast came as police used teargas and sound bombs to disperse the crowds protesting against the Formula 1. The main Shiite opposition bloc Al-Wefaq condemned Sunday's attack "regardless of the party which carried it out."

Bahrain, which is Sunni-ruled, has vowed to take the appropriate security measures ahead of this weekends’ Formula 1.

The 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix took place amid police using teargas, bird-shot and sound bombs to disperse violent protesting crowds.

In a statement, Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone said at the recently concluded Chinese Grand Prix that there is no reason why The Bahrain Grand Prix should not be successful.
