Bloemfontein - Carlos Sainz of Spain won the seventh stage of the Dakar Rally, while countryman Nani Roma maintained a large lead in the overall standings for cars.
The car division drove a 500-kilometre loop near Salta, Argentina.
He was followed in rapid succession by Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar, 11-time champion Stephane Peterhansel of France, and Roma.
South Africa’s Geniel de Villiers is in third place overall, 48 minutes and 23 seconds off the pace. Today’s 230km stretches between Salta and Calama in Chile.
