Five cops killed in five days─── 11:16 Tue, 01 Jul 2014
Pretoria - National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega says she's outraged by ongoing police murders.
Over the past five days, five South African Police Service (Saps) members have been killed nationally.
Last Friday, an officer was gunned down in front of his house in Kagiso, Gauteng
Unknown gunmen attacked and shot him several times as he was closing the gate to his driveway.
On Sunday, a lieutenant and a constable were shot at by two men after responding to a call in Limpopo when they came under heavy gunfire.
The constable escaped, but the lieutenant was killed instantly.
On Monday, three police officials lost their lives in Cape Town.
Two officers were gunned down in Nyanga and a third off-duty official was murdered in Mfuleni, all a few hours apart.
The two officers in Nyanga were shot and killed inside their police vehicle.
It’s understood they were waiting for backup after tracking down a hijacked vehicle when the attack took place.
The suspects made off with the officers’ firearms.
The police's Solomon Makgale says they are deeply saddened by the loss of their colleagues.
“This is a huge loss to the families and friends but it’s also a huge loss to the SAPS family and the communities where these members were working.”

Western Cape police have offered a R100,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.
Provincial Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says, “A reward of R100,000 is there. If anybody that can come forward with some information, we will really appreciate that.”
Lamoer says he’s disappointed that the Nyanga community, which has one of the highest murder rates in the country, has been robbed of two officers who died in the line of duty.
