Interpol building burgled for second time in three weeks | News Article

Pretoria - Police say they believe the latest break in at a high security building housing offices used by the Hawks and Interpol was done by people who regularly visit the premises.

Police spokesperson Solomon Makgale said thieves broke into the Pretoria building for the second time in three weeks.

He said two to three people stole laptops from the Hawks, presumably over the weekend.

He said police suspect the thieves were more interested in the laptops than the information contained therein.

In July criminals made off with computers and other equipment from the Interpol office in the same building.

Suspects gained entry with access cards and codes, raising concerns over security measures at the building, which also hosts non-police entities.

According to the Sowetan newspaper at the time, the laptops contained information about Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir's case, secret witness lists, and information linked to investigations into international crime syndicates.

Investigators had apparently indicated that one of the stolen laptops belonged to an officer involved in George Louca's extradition to South Africa from Cyprus. Louca is accused of murdering Teazers strip club boss Lolly Jackson.

Makgale said at the time the allegations were "pure speculation".
