Pinetown truck driver back in court | News Article

Durban - A Swazi national whose lorry ploughed into four minibus taxis killing 24 people in Pinetown was scheduled to appear in the Durban High Court on Wednesday.

During his last appearance in August, the court heard that Sanele Goodness May may consider a plea bargain.

On the evening of September 5 last year, at the height of rush-hour traffic, his truck smashed into four minibus taxis and two cars at an intersection at the bottom of Fields Hill.

Twenty-two people were killed at the scene. Two died later in hospital.

May has been in custody ever since and was previously denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court.

He initially faced 24 counts of murder, but this was changed to 24 culpable homicide charges.
