ISS says crime stats should be released more often─── SABRINA DEAN 07:53 Fri, 19 Sep 2014
Johannesburg - The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) has again added its voice to the call on Government to release crime statistics more regularly.
This as police minister Nkosinathi Nhleko and national police commissioner Riah Phiyega are scheduled to release the annual SAPS crime statistics during a media briefing in Pretoria at 10am on Friday.
Head of Governance, Crime and Justice at the ISS, Gareth Newham, says it is high time Government realizes the benefit in releasing the information more regularly.
He says regular crime statistics can be used by individuals, businesses, residents’ association and so forth to identify trends and take proactive steps to protect themselves from crime.
National police spokesperson Solomon Makgale has meanwhile confirmed the stats will be available on the SAPS website as soon as the briefing is finished.
