ISS notes several anomalies in latest crime stats─── SABRINA DEAN 16:12 Fri, 19 Sep 2014
Pretoria - The Institute for Security Studies says there are several anomalies in the 2013/14 crime statistics released by Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko and Commissioner Riah Phiyega this morning.
Addressing media during a post results analysis briefing, ISS researcher Chandre Gould said anomalies have been highlighted by increases in serious categories versus decreases in crimes like common and aggravated assault.
Head of Governance, Crime and Justice at the ISS, Gareth Newham, says the stats should be a wake-up call for all South Africans.
The ISS welcomed a call by the Police Minister for a national dialogue on reducing crime and violence in the country, as well as a focus on implementing the recommendations of the National Development Plan.
He once again reiterated the call for the statistics to be released more frequently:
