It's now time to go home: Barry Steenkamp─── 12:08 Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Pretoria - Reeva Steenkamp's father says he is satisfied with the five year sentence handed to Paralympian Oscar Pistorius for shooting dead the model in February last year.
Barry Steenkamp told reporters outside the Pretoria High Court that its now time to go home.
Judge Thokozile Masipa also handed the athlete a three year sentence, suspended for five years, for the negligent handling of a firearm.
The sentences will run concurrently. Pistorius's defense team gave no indication of whether or not they would appeal the sentence.
Barry Roux only said any appeal would have to be lodged within 14 days.
As the court adjourned, Pistorius made his way out of the dock and down the stairs to the holding cells.
Masipa said she considers the sentence to be fair to both society and the accused.
The Pistorius family will give a statement at 12:00. eNCA meanwhile caught up with two of Steenkamp's close friends - Gina and Kim Myers.
