Eskom: Electricity users need to come to the party─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 11:54 Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Bloemfontein - Eskom wants to avoid implementing rotational load shedding at all costs but electricity users need to come to the party too.
Eskom communication manager in the Free State, Adri Strydom, says the electricity supplier is calling on all consumers to switch off geysers, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances in the evenings from 6pm to 8pm.
Strydom says the power system will remain constrained until maintenance at the Medupi power station has been completed. She says power stations have ageing network systems that need to be maintained.
Eskom has also asked their key industrial customers to reduce their load by a minimum of 10%. She says they’re transitioning into a typical summer load profile and a period when maintenance is increased.
