CWU: Latest offer aimed at providing long-term solution | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Communication Workers Union says the latest revised offer tabled in the ongoing postal workers strike is aimed at providing a long-term solution that will prevent sporadic crippling strikes.

CWU General Secretary Aubrey Tshabalala says they are hopeful the lack of response from the SA Post Office (Sapo) yesterday means the institution is seriously considering the new demands, which include a 7,5% wage increase backdated to April and another 0,5% increase from January 2015.
It is also demanding an 8% increase plus CPI at the start of the new financial year in April 2015, as well as conversion of all employees into permanent staff within sixteen months:

Sapo spokesperson Lungile Lose yesterday told OFM News the reduced wage demand is a good thing but added that long-term affordability must be considered. He says the offer is being considered within the bargaining forum.

Meanwhile, Thsabalala is on route to Bloemfontein this morning where post office workers are expected to march around 10am.
