Johannesburg - More than 4-million South Africans have already submitted tax returns ahead of today’s deadline for tax season 2014.
SA Revenue Service (Sars) deputy spokesperson, Marika Muller, says yesterday alone saw nearly 120000 returns filed, most of these electronically. She says Sars is very happy with the numbers, which have exceeded targets.
Muller has again urged those who still need to file to do so as soon as possible.
Penalties for outstanding returns accumulate every month the return is outstanding. Muller says the penalty levelled depends on which tax bracket you fall into but could range anywhere from R250 per month to R16000 per month for multi-millionaires.
