DA welcomes Tshabalala's resignation─── 15:57 Wed, 17 Dec 2014
Johannesburg - The DA has welcomed SABC board chairperson, Ellen Tshabalala's, resignation.
DA MP Gavin Davis says Tshabalala's resignation is an elegant solution for President Jacob Zuma who was under pressure to suspend her pending the outcome of the parliamentary process.
The process for Parliament to remove her would have started in February, when the House reconvened.
According to Davis it has been five months since the party requested a parliamentary inquiry into allegations that Tshabalala lied about her qualifications. It was an unnecessarily protracted saga caused by the various delaying tactics employed by Tshabalala and her legal team.
Deputy board chairman, Mbulaheni Obert Maguvhe, will act as chairman until Zuma appoints a replacement.
