Court reserves judgment in Motsoeneng suspension matter | News Article

Cape Town - The Western Cape High Court has reserved judgment in the matter involving the suspension of SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Beeld newspaper reported on Friday.

The court heard an interim application on Thursday by the Democratic Alliance that a high court order against Motsoeneng be enforced.

In October, Judge Ashton Schippers ruled that the SABC had to suspend Motsoeneng and take disciplinary steps against him within 14 days, pending the outcome of a further DA application that his appointment as SABC COO be set aside.

This was after Public Protector Thuli Madonsela found that Motsoeneng had, among other things, lied about his matric qualification and gave irregular salary increases.

But since the court ruling, Motsoeneng has not been suspended, saying he would appeal.

The DA argued in court that the order needed to be enforced otherwise the country and the SABC would suffer irreparable damage.

Motsoeneng's lawyers argued that their client would suffer irreparable damage if the disciplinary process started, but his appeal turned out to be successful.
