Pretoria - Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant has announced that the minimum wage for farm workers will increase as of March 1.

The department said in a statement farm workers will earn a minimum of R2606.78 per month from March, just under R200 more than the current minimum.

Farm workers will be entitled to a weekly wage of just over R600, a day rate of R120.32 and an hourly rate of R13.37. The new wages will be in place until February 29 next year in terms of the sectoral determination, which is aimed at protecting farm workers.

The sectoral determination also regulates minimum working hours, number of leave days and termination rules.
