Nicro: Correctional Services should get priorities straight─── DANE BEISHEIM 12:35 Thu, 29 Jan 2015
Potchefstroom - Clothing should not be a priority for the Department of Correctional Services. This is according to the National Institute for Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders.
Their comment follows in the wake of news that the department intends to spend R31 million on new yellow uniforms for remanded, awaiting trial prisoners.
The department says these new uniforms, which will be sewed by inmates from fabric supplied by a private company, will differentiate awaiting trial prisoners from convicted prisoners who wear orange uniforms.
NICRO Spokesperson Jaques Sibomana says this money could be better spent.
