Clive Derby-Lewis stays in, Eugene de Kock gets out | News Article

Johannesburg - Clive Derby-Lewis, convicted of the murder of SACP leader Chris Hani, will not be released on medical parole.

Justice Minister Michael Masutha said in a live broadcast that there is nothing to suggest that Derby-Lewis's condition is such that he is rendered physically incapacitated so as to severely limit daily activity. This despite the medical parole board recommending that Derby-Lewis be released on medical parole. However, former Vlakplaas commander Eugene de Kock, dubbed "Prime Evil" by the media, will be released on parole. Masutha says De Kock's release is in the interest of nation building. The time and date of his release will not be made public. No decision has been taken on Ferdi Barnard yet and his application has been set aside for now. Sapa
