Cogta intensifying monitoring of municipal performance─── 07:52 Sat, 07 Mar 2015
Pretoria - The department of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) will over the next few months intensify the monitoring of municipalities to ensure that they get the support they need to improve their performance.
Speaking at the Presidential Coordinating Council (PCC) chaired by President Jacob Zuma at the Union Buildings in Pretoria yesterday, minister Pravin Gordhan said about 170 municipalities are complying with the Back to Basics programme that was launched last September to revitalise municipalities to ensure basic service delivery.
He further called on MECs to develop stronger monitoring capacity within their provinces to put local government on stronger footing.
