Johannesburg - The producer price index (PPI) for final manufactured goods increased by 0.4 percent from January to February this year, Statistics SA said on Thursday.
This left the annual percentage change in the PPI at 2.6 percent in February, Stats SA said.
The main contributor to the 2.6 percent annual rate were food products, beverages and tobacco products, at seven percent year-on-year and contributing 2.3 percentage points.
The main contributor to the 0.4 percent monthly increase were also food products, beverages and tobacco products, at 0.9 percent month-on-month, and contributing 0.3 of a percentage point.
The annual percentage change in the PPI for intermediate manufactured goods was 1.5 percent in February, compared with 3.4 percent in January.
From January to February the PPI for intermediate manufactured goods decreased by 0.2 percent.
The main contributor to the annual rate of 1.5 percent were saw-milling and wood, at 6.1 percent year-on-year and contributing 1.2 percentage points.
The main contributor to the monthly decrease of 0.2 percent were chemicals, rubber and plastic products, at -1.1 percent month-on-month and contributing -0.3 of a percentage point.
The annual percentage change in the PPI for electricity and water was 8.2 percent in February, compared with nine percent in January.
