Hofmeyr allegations hold no water: Mbeki─── 09:53 Sat, 11 Apr 2015
Johannesburg - Former president Thabo Mbeki has denied allegations made by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Willie Hofmeyr that he interfered in the work of the NPA during his tenure in office.
In his court papers, Advocate Willie Hofmeyr, says former NPA head Bulelani Ngcuka and then Scorpions boss Leonard McCarthy were part of a political conspiracy organised on Mbeki’s behalf to plot President Jacob Zuma’s downfall.
The affidavit was submitted by Hofmeyr in defence of the dropping of corruption charges against Zuma in 2009.
The former president's spokesperson Mukone Ratshitanga says Mbeki has studied the document.
Mbeki has since been exonerated by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
