Court to rule on Louca's treatment─── 07:08 Tue, 21 Apr 2015
Johannesburg - Strip club owner Lolly Jackson's alleged killer, Cypriot national George Louca, will learn on Tuesday if he will receive medical care for his lung cancer or continue to get treatment behind bars.
Judge Geraldine Borchers is expected to deliver her ruling on the matter in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court. She postponed the matter on Monday, telling prosecutor Paul Schutte it was an unprecedented matter she needed to give some thought to.
''I think it's a good idea to look at the documents and to consider the provisions of the act. I don't want to do that instantly," she said.
Louca was not in court on Monday and Schutte explained there were security issues transporting Louca from prison for the hearing.
The court is in a vast building on the outskirts of Alberton, and is reached by a series of highways, off-ramps and a final drive through suburbs.
''But why didn't he come today?'' insisted Borchers. "Is it because he is too ill?"
In February, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Louca had been hospitalised with suspected tuberculosis. It later emerged he had stage four lung cancer.
Jackson was shot dead in Louca's home in Kempton Park on May 3, 2010. Louca made claims in affidavits that Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir shot Jackson during a fight over R740 000. After the murder Louca called then Gauteng police intelligence head Joey Mabasa and allegedly confessed to the crime before fleeing to Cyprus. Louca was extradited in February 2014 after losing a final appeal to avoid being brought back.
Owen Blumberg, for Louca, said during his last court appearance he would argue that his client did not murder Jackson.
The murder trial was originally set down for trial from January 26 to March 6 in the South Gauteng High Court, sitting in Palm Ridge.
