More teachers leave profession in fear of violent learners─── THANDI XABA 16:12 Tue, 21 Apr 2015
Bloemfontein - The escalating violence in schools is leading some educators to resign early, for fear of victimisation and their own safety.
Deputy CEO of the Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools (FEDSAS), Jaco Deacon, says many teachers are leaving the teaching profession due to the fear of intimidation by violent pupils.
He says the Department of Education must assume a more visible role in combating this scourge.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) has recently launched the first of six principal seminars around the country to tackle the issue of school-based violence.
