EFF replaces rebel MPs in Parliament

EFF replaces rebel MPs in Parliament | News Article

Pretoria - Less than two weeks after dismissing three of the four “rebel” members of Parliament, the EFF has appointed new MPs following a victory in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.

The EFF appointed Mmabatho Mokause and Marshall Dlamini to replace Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, Andile Mngxitama and Mpho Ramakatsa, who were suspended after they launched a campaign to “save the soul of the EFF”.

According to the party, Mokause previously served as a coordinator of the EFF in the Northern Cape and until recently was a member of the provincial legislature.

Dlamini served in the central command team from the beginning as a commissar responsible for fundraising and deployed to KwaZulu-Natal.

The party said the remaining position would be filled by next month.

“The EFF central command team and war council will during the list replenishment process fill the remaining vacancies in Parliament before the end of May in order to ensure maximum participation in all Parliamentary duties.”

On Monday, in a dizzying turn of events the North Gauteng High Court granted the rebel MPs an urgent interim interdict to prevent the EFF from appointing new MPs, only to withdraw it just hours later.

Judge Eben Jordaan granted the four rebel MPs the interim interdict – which would have prevented Parliament from swearing in new members to replace the four – when the legal counsel of the EFF, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, failed to return when he left to go and consult the leadership of the party.

Ngcukaitobi returned at about 14:00 when they made their opposing arguments.

The judge made his ruling and said that: “This application is not urgent at all and is a complete abuse of the process.”
