Comair/SAA battle: Heads of argument not released to media | News Article

Pretoria - The court hearing the case of private airline Comair against SAA has unexpectedly granted that heads of argument not be released to the media, following an application by the national carrier to keep them out of the press.

Comair has been in the North Gauteng High Court to try to put an end to the bailouts SAA has been receiving from government, which are estimated to stand at R30 billion to date.

Comair argues this gives SAA an unfair advantage while other private airlines must keep themselves afloat without government's help.

The matter, which began last week Tuesday, has been adjourned until Thursday.

Legal expert with the Free Market Foundation, Leon Louw, says the ruling is an indication that there is more of a catastrophe
boiling beneath the surface.
