Justice department yet to announce decision on Derby-Lewis appeal─── 07:54 Sat, 30 May 2015
Pretoria - The justice ministry will explore whether it has any grounds to appeal the High Court's decision to grant Clive Derby-Lewis medical parole.
This is according to spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga speaking to the media in Pretoria after Judge Selby Baqwa yesterday overturned Justice Minister Michael Masutha's ruling to deny the ailing 79-year-old parole.
Derby-Lewis is serving a life imprisonment sentence after being jailed in connection to the 1993 murder of SA Communist Party leader, Chris Hani and he is dying from lung cancer.
Delivering his judgement, Baqwa said he had found flaws in Masutha's review of Derby-Lewis's medical parole application.
