Harsh sentences 'the only way to get motorists to adhere' | News Article

Port Shepstone - The General Manager for the Cycling South Africa National Federation, Michael Bradley, says harsh court sentences seem to be the only way to get motorists to acknowledge their responsibility on public roads.

Bradley testified in aggravation of sentence in the case against taxi driver Njabulo Nyawose who struck Olympic cyclist Burry Stander with his taxi more than two years ago, killing him.
The Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court yesterday sentenced Nyawose to three years behind bars.

Bradley, who worked with Stander for ten years, says after the 2012 Olympics Stander was ranked fifth in the world and he has no doubt he would have become world champion in the elite men group.
