Riah Phiyega should be suspended: ISS─── 08:12 Fri, 03 Jul 2015
Johannesburg - The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) says it too believes that Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega should be suspended.
The Institute addressed the media in Pretoria on Thursday about the next possible steps for the SA Police Service following the release of the Marikana report. The report recommended a probe into Phiyega's fitness to hold office following the death of 34 miners during a strike in 2012.
The ISS's Gareth Newham says the National Development Plan's recommendations, that a National Policing Board be set up, need to be urgently implemented.
He says this is so that all senior managers in the police service can be assessed on how they were recruited, among other things.
